Hi Jay,

I don't mean to sound discouraging but so many of your uploaded compositions sound pretty much identical to my ears!

Are they all I indeed unrelated works, or are they purposefully closely related?

Thank you,

Paul David Seaman

Hi Motherlode,

As I say, I do not wish to appear argumentative or hyper-critical here.

I listened to cira 10 pieces and they were all roughly the same tempo, in the same meter, and scored for the same instrumentation. Also, the melodies sounded quite alike.

The reason I asked is because Jay has uploaded a prolific contribution of pieces to the forum, but I was puzzled by the apparent similarity of many of them? In saying this, my 'ears' may be playing tricks on me in that there are are indeed clear distinctions between each of the arrangements!

Best,

Paul

Motherlode,

I followed the "O.M." chart you suggested through this evening.

For me, the melody and associated harmonies do not always seem to correspond (too many to mention!)?

Also, I am not able to understand the 'spelling' of many of the chord-symbols? C-13 could suggest different things!

Often, the harmony-part (Tenor) does not (diatonically) comply with the chord-symbol of the simultaneous melody-note?

Again, I really can't hear much distinction between this particular composition and a large proportion of Jay's other uploads?

If I had to force this piece into some kind of pigeon-hole I would say it was somewhat akin to Dolphy's "Miss Ann" composition (from 'Far Cry' album).

I did also look at your analysis but I have to be honest and admit that I was not able to decipher much of what you were discussing, and the abbreviation table used.

Cheers,

Paul

Motherlode,

Why on earth have all of your replies been removed might you know, please?

Paul
