In this example the second chord is to be played on the "and" of two, and sustained for the reast of the measure:

Here's another example of what I'm talking about.
Example #1 is written out. Example #2 uses the "push" symbol. Both are played exactly the same way, but in #2 it isn't required to write out the syncopation:
